An anthropology professor has joined the UFO debate by claiming the topic should be taught at universities.

Professor Philip Haseley has stated that the topic is a legitimate one and that it should be a mainstream area of study. "(A sighting) happens to millions of people (around the world)," he said. "It's about time we looked into this as a worthy area of study."

"The New York anthropology professor said the subject should be part of the mainstream as a serious “area of study”."

I see it's an anthropology professor who suggested this and I think that is where it belongs imo, anthropology. I can see how looking at the UFO phenomena from a psychological/social view could potentially be very interesting but other than that, what are you going to teach?! Conjecture and how to ignore witness unreliability.

You figure, at a minimum, it's got to have a least one credit per semester, which means at least one hour of class and one hour of study...Well, I suppose as an elective, like underwater basket-weaving or somesuch. One of those things to fill up the time more than anything else...

One of those things to fill up the time more than anything else... Possibly, though we don't do electives over here so I don't think it would fit in our system.

Science/tists are beginning to seriously study the paranormal (parapsychology) aren't they(?) not in schools granted, probably more so behind the mainstream(?)...so why not ufology? maybe they figure it's time to evolve...

Science/tists are beginning to seriously study the paranormal (parapsychology) aren't they(?) not in schools granted, probably more so behind the mainstream(?)...so why not ufology? Honestly, the only place I've seen anything that could be construed as a "study" has been in colleges, where inevitably there is one or a group of students working on their thesis, who choose to put together an experiment involving psi. Once can come up with several dozens of them researching university data banks. But no, not in the mainstream. And there's a good reason for that. In the words of the character Ray ... [More]

Nope, they are not. It was well studied up till the 80's but after 4 decades of research nothing was shown. Now only 2 universities in the US and 3 in the UK acknowledge these studies and all those labs are completely privately funded. Ufology is not science.

You've never had to work in the private s... [More]

Hear ya boyz... So why do governments/military $pend million$ in research on Remote Viewing using paranormal means? They cancelled that after getting no results as the source says, but they did that quite a bit after it had been dropped by academia.

Please do let universities teach us about UFO's. Would be so much more interesting but I guess I can't talk since I still have a while to go before I'm there...
