Two British researchers have developed the world's first set of bionic legs that allow paraplegics to walk again.
The invention, resembling a film prop from the Hollywood sci-fi drama Robocop, has been unveiled seven years after the pair first sketched the concept on the back of a beermat.

Seems like a step () in the right direction, althought it looks quite unpractical to me.

$150,000 US dollars for one of these. Way too much for something that you have to use a joystick to control. I could see that much money if it had some kind of fancy control that allowed the user to control by thought or muscle movement. In my opinion it's just a overpriced inefficient wheelchair without the wheels. And unless they put a crap load of batteries on it I can't see the batteries lasting more than an hour or two at a time.

Nice invention, but still a bit too slow. And a bit surprised it wasnt the japanese who invented this first.

Nice invention, but still a bit too slow. And a bit surprised it wasnt the japanese who invented this first. Iwould think that it would not be too long before this will modify into something better.Perhaps one for people with no legs at all. Two sockets for the nubs that used to be legs. Custom fit, super strenth, and how about the Steve Austin bionic sound when one moves would be a nice touch. "da,na na na na,,ta na na na na na"

A wheelchair would do just fine.

A wheelchair would do just fine. I dunno, I imagine it would be nice negotiate the world, that was not made for people sitting in chairs, standing upright. I hope they are able to improve on the technology and bring the price down. It would be awesome if they could do like magickaldan pointed out and integrate it with a persons thoughts and not need a joystick.
