Woman remembers every detail of every day

Violinist Louise Owen is able to recall details about every day of her life with incredible precision.
"For me, I will often see a calendar in my head, and it's usually a month at a time," she said. "When I hear the date, it's like my brain immediately goes to a position on a calendar and once I locate it, I see what happened instantly."
Researchers believe Louise Owen is one of six Americans to have "superior autobiographical memory," an uncanny, bar-bet-settling condition that allows them to recite details from almost every day of their lives. She and five other savants -- including "Taxi" actress Marilu Henner -- will be profiled on "60 Minutes" on Sunday night.

I was just thinking about that last night, how childhood in my memory is like a fast sequence of images flashing in my mind. For her, she remembers every day. That sounds like either a curse, or truly living in the moment.

I saw the program that featured these folks. It's an amazing ability, and one that may help pave the way to cures to memory issues (such as Alzhimers). The human mind never seems to run out of surprises.

My question is: how do they verify that her memories are accurate?

I wonder if she can remember things when she has a bit too much to drink... That could be something worth researching!

I have a similar ability called eidetic memory. Most people call it photographic memory but there are some differences. It has led to many an argument because I know exactly what someone said even years ago and they say they didn't say that. I did pull a stretch in a Special Operations Unit in the military. When I left I had to sign an agreement not to discuss anything that went on there for a period of 25 years. That was 27 years ago and I still remember everything that happened there, the names of the officers and enlisted men, the smells, what was said, and everything else. Time has not ero... [More]

A bless and a curse. Through millions of years, evolution still keeps the ability of forgetting because it's an important ability. Forget is an ability to distress and to erase memory which is eventually harmful to the brain (emotionally). The human brain is limited, if you stock something non stop without removing, it becomes exceed. You know what will happen next when something is exceed. But if you got a super storage brain, i'd say go for it.

If it was enough to cause emotional distress, then it most certainly isn't era... [More]
