I wonder how many things scientists assume during their researches. Alot. You should check out a TV documentary entitled "Forbidden Archeology". The program explores various findings that is "out of place" from current "accepted" theories. Therefore, many of these facts are ignored by the scientific community. Having your life's work literally thrown out the window will cause some truth bending it seems.

they didnt value protien above other types of foods, it is just that in a arctic climate it is hard to find other food sources than meat, which does include fish. i am sure just like us so called modern humans, they ate what they could when they could to survive. just because we go to the store to get it, doesnt really change that aspect of it. those of us who can buy steak buy steak, those of us who can only buy hot dogs, buy hot dogs.

Well duh... like everything else, cooking came about slowly and surely. It's not like modern humans just started that one day.

There is also strong evidence when they could find no other food source they cooked and ate each other. When you starve with a Neanderthal, the Neanderthal starves last!

Thats not as if neandethals have a monopoly on cannibalism. I think some remote tribes (homo sapiens) were still practicing cannibalism up until the 1960s maybe in papua new guinea, I forget.

You're pretty much on the ball. Papua New Guinea was notorious for tribal cannibalism up until the 1950s. The ideology was evolving during that period and pressure mounted to cease headhunting and cannibalism. By the time the country gained their independence in 1975, the practice have apparently ceased to almost non-existent. Whether or not certain indigenous tribes still practice this today is debatable... [More]

Aaah, it all makes sense. Now I see the the direct link between the Neanderthals and TVs Gordon Ramsey.

Now that is hardly suprising...like it's not to be expected that a Hominid that only died out 10k ago ate cooked food. It's almost as daft as not expecting them to be hunter gathering either. As we know cows munch grass...its safe to assume Neandethal ate plants for nourishment and that harder seeds or root could be blanched ! Guess what...they played naked football too haven't you heard of Rude van Neandethroy
