Humans would beat neanderthals in marathon

A new study has compared neanderthals and modern humans to see how they'd perform in a race.

The results suggest that modern humans would have had the edge over neanderthals in a long endurance race due to the length of certain limb bones. Neanderthals however would have been better at walking long distances and were physically stronger.

Humans, versus other great apes, are built for running fast and long as opposed to very impressive strength, but what about Neanderthals? If a modern human and a Neanderthal competed in a marathon, who would win?

No, but this falls under it, and paleontology. They were analyzing the differences in physical characteristics between Neanderthal and modern man, and this is one of the differences they found. Again, what would you have them study?

What this study showed is that the body structure or physiology of modern humans is more suited to long distance running, where the neanderthal was not. It was spun by the news article, but that's the basis of the finding. The writer of the article is the one who tried to make it appeal to the masses. You're saying it's a waste of money, it seems to fit in fine study of ancient man.

Ok on a serious note - I agree that the finding itself , is valid data .... i find it a waste of time and money that its claimed to be " big news " when really it deserves to be added to the list of differences between Neanderthals and homo S. Data - yes Worth reporting , writing a specific paper on - No TiP

Discovery.com is a science website, the specific section of the website is dedicated to new information on human research. It's not really meant for public release. As far as it goes, many scientific papers are probably not interesting reading for the average person.

Just clone a Neanderthal and put him to the test.
