Spring appears to be arriving earlier every year due to global warming according to a leading botanist.
The change in the times at which plants bloom is being referred to as "season creep" and has been documented for several decades. An analysis of 100 of the most popular types of flower had previously revealed that 90% of them were blooming up to 44 days earlier than they had done 20 years ago.
The leaves of the English oak are appearing sooner, meaning that winter moths are coming out earlier and, because the birds that eat them are still flying north, they have already turned from caterpillars and into moths.
