Goldfish survive 134 days without food

Doesn't surprise me - goldfish can be tougher than most people think. My best friend at school had a tank of goldfish, and one by one they all eventually died off. That is except for one little fishy who somehow kept going for fifteen years!

One of the oldest on record was 41 years old. Source. I've had mine for about 7 years now, and they're not showing any signs of slowing down. These are tough little fish. Most people don't know how to care for them, so when their goldfish dies around 1 year they just assume the fish aren't supposed to live a long time.

If I read the article correctly, there were originally six goldfish in the tank. Three were missing and a forth was floating at the top of the water. It seems to me the last two fish survived by eating the other fish. Knowing that goldfish are omnivores, this is no surprise to me.

I just got to say is that i have a 75 gallon tank. I wanted the guppies gone, so i turned off the filter, heater, light and stop feeding them. Year later, there is still guppies and the catfish and some kind of eel. Fish can live forever o.O So i am not impressed by the story at all. LOL

Yeah. They ate algae. Then there's the delicate question of their missing companions. There were six goldfish in the tank when the earthquake struck. By the time the survivors were found, no trace remained of three of the fish. A fourth was found floating in the tank. Goldfish are, after all, omnivores.

And people say goldfish are stupid...

Sadly, shortly after reuniting with the goldfish the family cat knocked over their tank and ate them.
