Have our brains reached maximum capacity ?

Scientists have claimed that our brains have reached their limit and that we can't get any smarter.
The reason for this is because in order for that to happen the brain would require substantial amounts of additional energy and oxygen, something that our bodies are unable to provide. "We have demonstrated that brains must consume energy to function and that these requirements are sufficiently demanding to limit our performance and determine design," says neurobiologist Simon Laughlin.
We've invented penicillin, space shuttles, computers and even artificial hearts, among many other wonders. So where will human intelligence go from here? The answer, if certain scientists are correct, is nowhere.

primordial dwarfs and people with physical/genetic handycaps, have a much lower intellegence on average then your average "1350 cc brain" human. DC you might want to rethink that statement. Little people aka dwarfs will probably take offence, Stephen Hawking would probably take offence and quit possibly Ray Charles would take offence. I think you ment a mental handicap or maybe brain damage of some sort. Besides a larger brain does not equal intelligence. There are animals that have larger brains then us but I have yet to play chess with any of them lol

I still point to the fact that people with smaller brains... primordial dwarfs and people with physical/genetic handycaps, have a much lower inte... [More]

Let's go back to where this brain size thing started... A bigger brain doesn't make your smarter. Also "our" brains haven't changed much in the last 2 million years. Who believes that the "people" of two million years ago have the same intellegence as the people of today. Who all had brains two and one half times smaller then a modern human, at about 500cc. In reference... a chimp has about a 370 cc brain and gorilla a 500 cc brain. To end... the question, are we smarter then gorillas? All of this, going back to the OP, prooves again, that our brains are still changing and most likely improvin... [More]

This just show you haven't read anything about the matter, just one article. Please do, and i will be delighted to have a discussion. The generally accepted opinion on this matter is: We dont know. And yet, you've professed over and over that YOU actually do... You should also do this. Many people(you) don't really know whats goes on. The media isn't interested in the subject, so you will have to start reading some scientific journals. I'll be glad to help you, if you really want to.The General Intelligence Factor Logical fallacies used to dismiss the evidence on intelligence testing Intellige... [More]

Wow. A lot of that is irrelivant. I tried to give you some papers, so you could get a better understanding how our brain works. Either you didn't want to understand or you couldn't. Several of them say "we don't know", or brain size is only one variable. Others are only opinion. I did not see any that said the people of 2 million years ago were the intellectual equals of today, only that the people of the stone age are intellegence wise probably the same as us... and they and us, are all homo-sapiens. The people of 2 million years ago were not even of the Homo line. Yes we have evolved the las... [More]

I tried to give you some papers, so you could get a better understanding how our brain works. Either you didn't want to understand or you couldn't. No.... I understand them fine. You seem to think that you are being clever and pointing out something that is not being shown. Anyone could do a google search and post the results one at a time. Yes we have evolved the last 2 millions years. I'll give you that one. I have never said that we have the same intelligence now as we had 2m years ago. You did IMPLY exactly that. I put the quote in my post above. But we are talking about brain size vs inte... [More]

a bigger brain is due to more muscle mass and as we do less and less exercise, its only gunna get smaller.

Well, the vast majority of those I encounter don't use what little they have, so what's the difference?
