Red rain falls over India

Residents were left perplexed when red coloured rain started falling from the sky in rural Kannur.
The rainstorm lasted only 15 minutes but it was enough to turn streets and courtyards blood red. Kannur block panchayat president Shaija M managed to collect samples of the rainwater for analysis. "I thought someone killed some animal and its blood got mixed with water on the courtyard," she said. The water was reported to smell like raw beetroot.

M Santhosh from the local meteorological department was able to shed some light on the mystery. "I assume this is due to atmospheric pollution," he said. "The pollutants in the air get dissolved in rainwater resulting in red rain."
Though not for first time in the state, red rain in parts of Kannur on Thursday did create some panic and curiosity among the residents in the district.

This red rain may be caused by the sands from sahara desert in africa being blown their way, then raining rain. The red rain is known to go to italy, spain and england as well. I recall my cousin long ago on vacation, fliped after 1 such rain fall. Also, I recall news before mentioning other problems, I believe it was cuba, but not sure, it was some island not to far from america. anyhow they believed some of their health problems regarding lungs may of been caused by people breatheing in this sand-dust,

It certain did happen before, and they analysed the stuff. It were algea spores. http://en.wikipedia...._rain_in_Kerala This is interesting: "The red cells found in the red rain in Kerala, India are now considered as a possible case of extraterrestrial life form. These cells can undergo rapid replication even at an extreme high temperature of 300 °C. They can also be cultured in diverse unconventional chemical substrates. The molecular composition of these cells is yet to be identified" .From your link-
