The crew were filming a documentary for the BBC called 'UFO: Conspiracy Road Trip' when they were caught.
The 12-member crew which included UFO conspiracy theorist Darren Perks had been visiting iconic locations near the infamous base including the town of Rachel and the base's "Black Gate". Since there was no sign of any guards they decided to walk across the perimeter and in to the base to film what was there. After about 30 minutes one of the crew pointed out that she could see several security guards eating and watching TV at a nearby security hut. The guards took no notice of them until one of the crew decided it was a good idea to stroll over to the hut and knock on the door.
Rushing outside the guards forced them face down on the ground for three hours at gunpoint and confiscated their film equipment. After conducting security checks the guards then marched them to the sheriff's office where they were fined £375 and threatened with the possibility of six months in prison.
"Military personnel arrested a BBC film crew at the secret Area 51 military base in Nevada where UFO conspiracy theorists claim US authorities are keeping bodies of aliens and debris of an ET "flying disc" that crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947."
