A soul's pre-life

Well it was one of those vivid dream nights again or a message received (you decide). But for me it was like being a witness to the creation of pre-life. It has been said that before we are any type of life form, like as being just a soul, we choose our parents, and we choose our life purpose and what makes us up, like personality, color etc.. Well the vivid dream was that of, I guess you could call it 'a soul', and this soul was descending down what appeared to be a tunnel of light. But this soul would stop every few seconds and it was looking at what appeared to be a shelf.

One shelf would have life hardships, and the soul only had 2 seconds to make a choice of what hardships it would choose before descending down to a life form. Then it would move onto another shelf below the last, and then also have a 2 second choice of lets say the type of loves it would encounter, and this went on through different descending levels until the soul was conceived by it's chosen parents. The soul was given many choices on each shelf, but only had like I said, 2 seconds to decide on the things in life it could count on for sure, and these things were like it's foundation for the life it would face and the length of that life. The soul then only had those things to create a life on and it is up to that soul, on what degree it would do so. Also there was something like a message, like the type you see at the end of a movie (the credits), that explained that souls even though they had free choice, their whole life was not mapped out for them, that this was just a foundation to work with.

Those that did not choose from the shelves (kind of like not making up their mind on choices or decided not to pick any thing from the shelves), would not live long or becomes a miscarriage and at a later time, that soul would be given another chance to make it's choices.

A better question would be how could anyone take this guy's "dream" postulations serious in any way shape or form? Good grief.

Why would a pre-life soul thinks just like human do? Probably they think differently... who knows? Why would a soul think?

Why would a pre-life soul thinks just like human do? Probably they think differently... who knows? Ok, why would they think one way in 'wherever', then magically change the way they think here on earth? Isn't the point of it being a soul that the personality and thinking patterns are already there, it just needs a physical body to inhabit? In which case, if it changed the way it thought, it would be a completely different person.... Yeaaahhh... once again, this theory doesn't hold much water.... It makes me chuckle how people take their dreams so literally sometimes...

I hate to be this way, but this hippy "we pick our parents" crap is nauseating. What about children that are born into abusive homes? Did they choose that?

My issue with this is that, if you're allowed to choose your parents, hardships, etc.... why would anyone choose abusive parents, or to have a mental illness, or that they want to be a serial killer?.... I'm sorry, this just doesn't jive with me.... Perhaps you only have Karma to work with?

I hate to be this way, but this hippy "we pick our parents" crap is nauseating. What about children that are born into abusive homes? Did they choose that? Thank you, my point exactly. See my original post, it was the first one. I'm sorry, people can put whatever twist they want to suit their likes, but the definition of a 'soul' is an independent part of ourselves that lives on without a physical body, but with our personality and thinking intact. Therefore, if it has a choice before it goes to inhabit a body, logically, it will not choose to live in a bad home situation, or have a mental ill... [More]

I see your point, but i think you need a brain for thinking patterns and you don't have a brain when the body is dead. But personality might be contained in the soul. But having a personality is the result of being able to have a thought process. People who are brain-dead (vegetables, if you will) don't exhibit any signs of a personality.

But having a personality is the result of being able to have a thought process. Hmm not necessarily, i would say. People who are brain-dead (vegetables, if you will) don't exhibit any signs of a personality. Yes, that's because brain-dead people are unconscious.

'FairyJosie23' date='Oct 8 2007, 08:38 AM' post='1924597'] .... Therefore, if it has a choice before it goes to inhabit a body, logically, it will not choose to live in a bad home situation, or have a mental illness, etc. In the end, this whole theory holds as much water as a sieve. This 'theory' spins out that you choose the problems you need to learn to tackle in order to keep paying off karma and progress towards Enlightenment. The harder the problems the faster the progress. An easy life would be a 'wasted incarnation' if no much was learnt in it.
