For our first review of 2008 we'll be taking a look at Dr. Bob Curran's new book "Lost Lands, Forgotten Realms". Regulars to our site will no doubt be familiar with stories of the likes of Atlantis, Shangri-La and Lemuria which are believed to have existed but which to this day remain undiscovered. "Lost Lands, Forgotten Realms" is a comprehensive guide to such places, delving deep in to the myths, the stories and the facts behind a large number of the world's most well known mythological civilizations, lands and places.
There is a gold mine of information here and anyone with an interest in ancient civilizations, myths and legends will find this book irresistible. Each location is covered in it's own chapter and accompanied by an impressive illustration provided by Ian Daniels. Each chapter provides the historical background, facts and mythologies about each lost city, sunken land, subterranean world, mythological place and vanished realm covered in the book. The Garden of Eden, Avalon, Atlantis, Davy Jones' Locker, Hyperborea and Lyonesse are just a few examples of what you can find here.
"Lost Lands, Forgotten Realms" is an easy book to pick up and read, the chapters are independent of one another making it very accessible and an excellent reference resource. An index is also provided for locating specific information quickly.
If you are looking for a book that provides a comprehensive resource for information pertaining to ancient mysteries and mythology then this is ideal; if you have even a passing interest in this area you will undoubtedly learn a lot about the places covered here and introduce yourself to many others you didn't even know about in the process. A recommended read.
