There is a question that has been brought up a lot in the paranormal field. Should investigators or business establishments be charging for paranormal investigations? It all depends. I've always believed in doing the right thing. I do not agree with investigators charging clients for investigations. I also do not think that business establishments should be charging the fellow paranormal investigator a fee for investigating, especially since investigators are the ones who proclaim or deem their establishments to be haunted in the first place. If you are going to charge anyone any kind of fee, charge people outside the paranormal field. Remember our field is strictly for scientific purposes and volunteer only. It just seems like every type of historical business is eating it up or taking advantage of it. There's nothing wrong with them trying to improve their business. They will do what it takes to survive and make an income just as much as the next guy.
Perhaps they should rephrase how they word charging people. State it as a donation rather than a fee. It would be nice to know where our money is going? Is it going towards renovations or keeping the place up? Is it for charity? If our money is going for a good cause, then I think its ok to charge. But charge a smaller fee to a fellow paranormal investigator. I think that is fair and reasonable. With everything becoming so costly it helps us out a great deal. Besides, you do not see scientists charging people do you?
Everything is becoming so expensive in certain regions of the country as I stated in my last article such as gas, oil, and traveling costs. If there was a deal or negotiation we could make with haunted establishments, it wouldn't be so bad. You have a lot of thrill seekers but then you have those who truly study and research ghostly phenomenon. I don't think its asking a lot of those establishments to be fair with the fellow investigator who is just there to scientifically try and prove paranormal events.
In all honesty who do you think started all of this? Please do not get me wrong when I say that I believe TAPS had a great deal in getting these historical business establishments into turning this into a money making business. It just seems like every big establishment they investigate turns around and is making money off of their haunting with t-shirts, posters, ghost tours, appearances with Ghost Hunters and so forth.
They also charge astronomical amounts of money for it. I'm a huge fan of Ghost Hunters. I enjoy what they do. I also have a ton of respect for them. They have done a lot for our field in a short span of time. But at the same time, the establishments who are making money out of it hurts the smaller research groups who are in this for the science end of things.
If you have a way to study & research such establishments without having them charge a fee to you, please share how you do it. As time goes on, things aren't going to get better with expenses. They are just going to get worse. Unless you have an excellent paying job. Like the old saying...
