( Dec 15th ) COP15 is the largest and most important U.N. conference to ever take place. Consisting of delegates from 192 nations, over 30,000 activists, hundreds of military and law enforcement personnel, and dozens of companies and conservation groups, it is nothing less than a politics and campaign driven sludgefest. Unfortunately, it will probably not succeed at least not in the manner its organizers hoped for. Here are the ten reasons why (in order from the least to the most impacting):
10) Poor role models: It has been stated by other news outlets many times before, but it has been calculated that the Summit in its totality will generate three to four times more CO2 emission than some countries do in a single year. Not that thats necessarily a bad thing since uniting that many people in one place for that length of time takes tremendous organizational skills. Rather, its the hypocrisy of it. Why make CO2 the bogeyman when the very activity being participated in is pumping out surreal levels of CO2 to begin with?
Ive been an environmentalist for many years. For years, I also thought I was an activist until I met my first real activists out west in British Columbia. Thats when I realized I didnt fit in. Instead of wearing hi-tech synthetics or exotic natural fibers, being vegetarian and knowing all about organic foods and the latest causes, I wore jeans and a leather jacket and sipped Pepsi and munched on Big Macs. When attending meetings and events, I was rarely approached. Instead, I was often met with sneers and looks of indifference. Talk about a wakeup call.
Note to environmental activists: the farther left you go, the more youll fly around in circles. Try to meet the rest of the world in the center at least temporarily. Itll help. It really will.
And while were on the subject of activists…
9) Confusing activism: COP15 is the very first international official gathering that has both activists and conference delegates equipped with the same agendas. Go figure. In other words, contrary to other conferences that had activists protesting against what went on behind closed doors, COP15s delegates and its activists are all pushing for action on climate change. Therefore, unbeknownst perhaps even to themselves, activists in Copenhagen are actually supporters. But Lord help Copenhagen if talks fail and the crowds react…
8) Media wars: Bravo to the FOX News Network, as it was the very first North American mainstream media outlet to actively cover the issue of Climategate and the theories of anthropogenic global warming (AGW). CNN has since reluctantly jumped on the bandwagon and has at least tried to provide an objective perspective. NBC, BBC, and ABC score dead last with only cursory broadcasts. The real winner in terms of the media has been the alternative media and the hundreds upon hundreds of YouTubers and Bloggers. Of course, one has to consider that the reason why mainstream media was so reluctant to cover the climate scandal may be because of its close affiliation with government along with conflicting footholds in corporate and financial circles. Conversely, outlets such as Russia Today deserve high marks for consistent coverage.
7) Al Gore: Every cause has its front man. The climate change movement had former Vice President Al Gore as its cardboard cutout hero. Yet with a carbon footprint rivaling three families put together, Gore has single handedly discredited the entire popular appeal of the antiglobal warming movement with Climategate and his refusal to openly debate the topic. Surprisingly, despite actions against him taken by We Are Change members during recent book signings, he decided to give his speech in Copenhagen after all. If Gore escapes heavy fines, the taking away of his Nobel Peace Prize and two Oscars - and perhaps even imprisonment in the aftermath of all this, he can thank his lucky stars.
As for President Obama, he would have been included in the list of top people on the topic of global warming, but the current Commander-in-Chief is scheduled to arrive in Copenhagen only on the last day of the Summit almost like his attendance to this gala is but an afterthought. One thing is certain; with his recent Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in Oslo, Norway, the pressure for him to sign anything in Copenhagen will be incredibly intense. Needless to say, some very clever setting of the pieces must have been going on behind the scenes to ensure all goes smoothly and to the letter. One might even wonder if events are spiraling themselves into place.
6) Financial terrorism: If the talks are successful and the Cap and Trade bill sneaks its way into your daily existence, you can look forward to a sharp increase in personal debt in the form of the proposed Carbon emissions tax. In a nutshell, any and all of your activities (including your own breathing, believe it or not) and purchased goods involving Carbon Dioxide being pumped into the atmosphere will be taxed with monies being sent to a one world body in order to (allegedly) pay developing nations. Of course, making people poorer actually works against helping to heal the planet as poverty stricken individuals and families breed more and use more resources around them. In the war against Earths destruction, a robust economy and an educated populace are the best buffers one could hope for. Somehow the ruling elite has not figured that out yet. Or maybe they have and just dont care.
Also (and I have to mention this), nations considering signing any legal document at the end of this Summit had better keep in mind that rich people and nations rarely ever give poorer ones free money. To my brothers and sisters in developing nations, take it from a Native American. You will be duped not only in the short term but also in the next five to ten years and beyond. As the late George Carlin stated: Its a big club, and you aint in it.
5) Unsettled science: Contrary to the hot air emanating from the Climate Research Unit in East Anglia these days, many top researchers and scientists the world over possess some of the coolest heads around. And though nearly all are unanimous in the opinion that man is affecting the planet to some degree, discussions and debates rage on in trying to find out just how much thats true. Science itself is definitely in a Tsunami right now and will not escape from this unchanged. By the way, for a delightful glimpse into the workings and dealings between true scientists on this issue, you should look up some of the recent videos of debates being broadcast to the web by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
4) One World Government: For a moment, imagine the monstrosities committed by the worlds governments upon groups and individuals. In Saudi Arabia, for example, heads are chopped off for offenses such as robbery, rape, adultery, drug use and trafficking. A Chinese prison is anything but a cakewalk, and so is getting a fair trial in many South American countries. Now picture a one world government uniting all of these nations into a singular body one designed and groomed to rule the entire planet. How on Earth supporters (oops I meant activists) in Copenhagen fail to see the recipe for disaster they are working for is beyond me, but the end result of 192 nations being united under one group of people is bound to be less than benevolent.
Ironically, Im all for a one world government just not in the way and manner it is currently being worked towards. We could do a lot better, I think.
3) The Danish Text leak: Not that the United Nations has much of a role in anything these days, but at least it hasnt enslaved the planet during its tenuous existence. It has still retained some diplomacy and tact. Well, the leaked Danish text documents suggest that the United Nations will become nearly nonexistent should Copenhagen succeed. Also included within the text are discussions of rich nations possessing disproportionately greater wealth and stronger geopolitical & financial pull than developing nations, along with severe prejudice being applied to the third world in terms of allowed Carbon emissions per capita.
Whatever the final Treaty contains and however it is written, be assured that its wording will be both heavily confusing and one sided with clauses and exceptions everywhere. Taskforces of lawyers and legal advisors will have major migraines with this document.
2) Climategate: The synopsis: A hacker (or more likely, a whistleblower) steals well over a thousand E-Mails and source code from East Anglias Climate Research Unit and releases them to the world, thereby triggering an international tempest of media and public debate. And all this just weeks before the worlds greatest United Nations conference takes place. Whoa.
Yep sounds like a plan taken straight out of a John Grisham novel. Except it isnt. Climategate is very real.
Of course, mainstream media (and at least one former U.S. Vice President) have been quick to downplay the E-Mails, saying that these were taken out of context. (Bullocks. The E-Mails clearly show how trusted scientists worked closely in tight-knit environments to purposely distort and falsify data to lend weight to manmade global warming). Climategate is certain to become a household word for generations to come, especially since global warming is the most expensive and damaging scientific scandal in history to date aside for the next one on our list…
1) UFO Disclosure: Surprised? Dont be. You knew it was coming. The main reason why Copenhagen will come to naught is that it fails to address and deal with the reality that energy rich, highly sophisticated and exotic tech exists and is locked up in secret projects. This tech possibly has offplanet origins and could be the key to fixing any damage we have done to the planet to date. The planets current financial and social disarray might have to do with the elite allowing and encouraging everything to first fall apart before releasing the technology.
And thats it literally. On December 18th 2009, the fate of the sovereignty of 192 nations upon planet Earth will be decided. If any heroes still exist in this world (or offworld for that matter), let them act or speak out. I guess that means us.
