Jon Downes examines a set of photographs he's received taken from a helicopter showing what appears to be an alligator of monstrous proportions swimming through the water with an adult stag in its mouth.
Jon Downes: One of the things about the Fortean omniverse I have always found entertaining is the way that stuff always happens in batches. On the same day that I received this story about alligators in Alabama, I also received this series of photographs and what purports to be a news story..."

Good Lord smartarses annoy me. Please spell correctly when you're trying to have a go at me But you can tolerate yourself, that is understandable though. By the way, it is smart asses not smartarses. Okay, my particular knowledge of this, for example how I knew the lengths of each of the crocodiles I listed (see? I have a brain which works sometimes too) was from a school whatsit about crocodilians. An order which includes crocodiles *and* alligators. Back then I wasn't distingushing too greatly between crocs and gators, so when I came to reply to this post, that was what came to my mind. So I... [More]

Biggest so far? How big is the one in the article pic? It appears to me to be at least that long. Unless the man in the pic is seriously far away or very short. From the shadow of the rope, I'd say he was very close. Assuming a 6 foot man, that makes this gator at least 15 feet by my "finger on the screen" measurements, and 18 feet might easily be possible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alligator http://www.naturestocklibrary.com/popular/...167905590_SWJBP http://alligatorfur.com/alligator/alligator.htm According to some links I saw this was not an official record, as no government official mea... But these are all according to, where is the specimen or pictures verifying the length? Pictures can be deceptive or faked, so then are you suggesting that every large gator simply be killed and brought in to the government for measurements? If Monster Quest can find a 16 footer, I'm sure that if someone else went looking then longer ones will be found.

Since Mother Nature kills off animals on a regular basis, I suggest we give her a hand. Keep the Grizzlies and Polar Bears but dust off a few worthless animals in their place. I suggest as starters: Excepting the turtles, all reptiles over 1 ft long, all mosquitos, ticks, lice, chiggers, roaches, fire ants, termites, and jellyfish, plus poison oak and crab grass. I'm sure I missed a few likely prospects but we can get them on the 2nd strike. See, I've solved one of the major problems of the Earth. Quit killing each other and unite against these varmints, at least till we exterminate them. Kenn... [More]

Libby, because they are absolutely worthless. They either bite, sting or are ugly. I can't think of any better reason for elimination. Could throw a few animal lovers in there with them. IMHO, KennyB

IMHO, KennyB Your a butthead. If you want to kill these creatures for those reasons than you must want to kill all the people as well as humans are the most dangerous of all animals and yes we are ugly and I mean that. So to put this baby to rest LOL I have a bet at work about this. I'm calling that last pic a fake as that would be the largest ever in Florida and it doesn't add up. Can anyone verify if that la...
