A man who was blinded 12 years ago following an accident at his workplace has regained his sight after doctors removed one of his teeth, fitted a tiny optical lens in to it and then inserted it in to his eye socket.
A blinded man has seen his wife for the first time after surgeons gave him back his sight using one of his teeth. Martin Jones' canine was pulled out so a tiny optical lens could be fitted to it, then the tooth was inserted in his eye socket."

"Then I saw this figure and it was her, it was unbelieveable," Mr Jones told The Sun newspaper. Um.....I'm kinda surprised no one else noticed that it was the Sun newspaper that covered this. That right there tells me this is fake. Incase you don't know about them, they have a history of spouting out fake stories like this one. I mean come on people, a tooth can not be turned into an eye. Good point, now I feel like I fell for an April Fool's joke...

the tooth did not turn into an eye! they put a camera (i think they didn't mention this clearly) inside it. they used the tooth so the body wouldn't reject it since it's a part of it. so the camera captured images and relayed it to the brain thats how he could see. its a form of human-machine interface.

I cant quite accept this yet. How is the electronic stimulation of the camera transmitted to the brain? I know this kind of thing can be done, especially because he didn't lose his right eye (so presumably with his right optic nerve still wiring back to the left lobe), I just wonder how his brain is converting information into a biologically compatible form.

Yes, the Sun is a tabloid. Didn't any of you wonder why the story was so short and why they didn't tell you how he was able to see thru the camera? I mean you just don't stick a tooth camera in your eye socket and see. It has to send signals to the brain in some manner. I'll reserve judgment until I see this in the mainstream. In fact, for this to be true and not be in the mainstream news is hard to believe.

It does look pretty horrible. A little bit of refinement will sureley follow. Well, nothing a contact lens can't camouflage for the time being, if it's really an issue.

I would think there are probably far more practical way's of going about this, than using a tooth. There has to be. Medical science has gone retarded if there isn't. Bright side, at least the guy can see I guess.
