Indian man has 5 kidneys

A photographer from India has five kidneys after receiving three additional ones via donations from his two sisters and mother. When the first two organs failed doctors decided to leave them inside rather than trying to remove them.
An Indian photographer, Jaswant Singh, is living with five kidneys after three donations from members of his family. Mr Singh, 33, has had three transplant operations after donations from his two sisters and mother. "

Not Bad.... I have (had) 3 spleens. In a car accident in 1979 I lacerated my spleen. Dr's at Rutland VT general Hosp went in to remove it & found a total of 3. They removed 1 ...leaving me with 2. who knows...down the rode Maybe I will trade this guy JohnLam aka formerly known as "Tri-Spleen" now known as "bi-spleen"

Wow, a pretty moving story if you read it. I was just wondering what will happen with the kidneys left in there if they are not functioning. Doesn't the body usually form a calcium shell around foreign objects? If they are not functioning then wouldn't the body see them as foreign objects? I hope that they didn't decided to leave them in there since it was a free operation and so they took the least expensive route. i agree, if those kidneys are not functioning, they shouldnt be there at all, i bet its not the last time that he will see his doctor.

Actually, it's fairly common to leave them in sometimes. I THINK so, anyways. My ex-bf had three transplants and all 5 were left in there when he passed away.

But how did they put in the extra three kidneys? I would have thought there are only two sets of renal arteries and veins where kidneys can be plugged in
