Two mysterious beehives have been discovered carved high up in to the stonework of the Rosslyn Chapel's roof.
The hives were found during renovation work at the 600-year-old building, they are thought to be the first man-made stone bee hives ever found.
The ancient Rosslyn Chapel, beloved as the key to mysteries surrounding The Da Vinci Code, the Holy Grail and the Knights Templar, has thrown up another unfathomable puzzle: what lies behind the secret of the bees?

mmmm... Sacred mead, I think they have Rosslyn Chapel all wrong. It is has a lot of Pagan influence in the carvings around it. I think it was built as a Pagan Chapel. Funny that was my first thought. Then my second thought was that maybe they were attempting somehow to harvest honey? (With out thinking it through.) Or they were just for decoration?

For those who have read "Holy Blood Holy Grail", bees have always been an important symbols for the Merovingian kings. In some of the graves, up to 850 golden bees have been found (Napoleon was wearing some of those bees on his coat while crown emperor). Since Rosslyn Chapel is a very important structure in the story, perhaps the beehives were a hidden way of teaching us something (I'm not trying to bring in the Da Vinci Code of a certain dan brown)... ( :angry2: :angry2: :angry2: dang I just did).

Bees are an interesting symbol. As has been mentioned they were a symbol of the Merovogians but why? The metaphor of milk and honey is used in alchemy sometimes but I see two other potential resaons for the use of bees. Bees have a hive mind so could it be a clue to a collective consciousness. Alternatively, isn't there something in quuantum physics to do with the dance bees do to communicate. It's hardly convincing I know but it is just about possible that there was some hidden meaning to them. Maybe not though, they may have just appreciated honey and no more.

Or maybe they are there because it is difficult to sculpt perfect hexagons and they show off the stone masons skill. Not everything has to be a conspiracy theory.

The land of milk and honey? Milk and honey, the food of the gods. Bees are very symbolic as much for their industrialness as their product.
