'White strawberry' that tastes like pineapple

A peculiar new type of fruit will soon go on sale that looks like a white strawberry and tastes like pineapple.
The pineberry is similar to a white strawberry with red pips but with a flavour and smell much closer to that of pineapples. Far from being a genetically modified product these berries originated naturally in South America but had been threatened with extinction until a few years ago.The pineberry is white and covered in red pips and has the same genetic make-up as the common strawberry but with a flavour and ''extraordinary'' smell closer to that of the pineapple, Waitrose said.
