A new species of tree dwelling lizard from the Philippine island of Luzon has been identified for the first time.
The new animal is only the third known species of fruit-eating lizard in the world. Its somewhat smaller than its larger meat-eating cousin the komodo dragon and more elusive given its habitat up in the trees.
A dragon-sized, fruit-eating lizard that lives in the trees on the northern Philippines island of Luzon has been confirmed as a new species, scientists reported on Tuesday.

very cool! i want one as a pet. ill keep it on a leash attached to the tree in the front yard to scare people away 6 feet long and 22lbs seems a little disproportional to being "dragon-sized" though. probably quite skinny and very adept at climbing.

A 6-foot fruit eating lizard? Sort of a fail imo. Especially since they were dubbing it a "dragon." It must be the reptilian cousin to a sloth. Interesting how people thought its fruit-based diet made it more tasty than carnivorous animals. I guess if a human-eating alien race ever comes to earth we'll just offer up the vegetarians on silver platters. Who knows, maybe they'll let us try some too.

I'm sure they'll make strides in Florida once someone obtains one as a pet and lets it loose. The overpopulated boa population will love the sweet taste of this new fruit eating species.

This title really should have been "KOMODO dragon sized lizard is a new species" Misleading wording for news articles FTW? Ah, the old attention grabbers. Interesting how people thought its fruit-based diet made it more tasty than carnivorous animals. Hopefully we can get past the first part of what I'm about to say and focus on the relevant, but. An old friend of mine routinely drinks human blood. She says vegetarians and those who don't drink many acid filled beverages like soda have a much better taste.

A bit over-enthusiastic in the deion, hmm? Anyway, it must be a very skinny lizard indeed if it's 6 ft. and 22 lbs. Makes me wonder just how much meat they get from this little guy.

Sounds like us meat-eaters have an advantage. We don't taste as good, lol.
