The face of a medieval knight who died 700 years ago has been revealed through the use of forensic techniques.
A team at Dundee University were able to piece together what the knight would have looked like through analysis of his skeleton which was discovered underneath the floor of a chapel at Stirling castle in Scotland.
The battle-scarred face of a medieval knight who was killed some 700 years ago has been revealed with the help of forensic skills employed in popular TV shows such as CSI. The skeleton of the warrior, who was killed at the time of Scotland's Wars of Independence with England, was discovered under the floor of a chapel at Stirling Castle.

What I found the most amazing was that (according to the article) the guy was only in his 20's and had already survived an arrow to the chest, that left the head lodged in there, and an axe blow to the fore head. Dang that's a rough life. I also found it interesting to read that a warhammer will leave neat square holes in a skull.

I've read that boys as young as 10 went to war in those days. If they could lift a weapon, they were sent, so this knight would have been a seasoned veteran.

Most knights started training in childhood and often had seen their first battle as a knight by the age of sixteen. Even before that there were rough trials that could kill or disable them. Analysis of the skeleton, which was unearthed in 1997, reveals that when he died the man was in his 20s, was around 5ft 7in and 'very strong and fit, with the physique of a professional rugby player'. Sounds like my type of man

I was going to comment "Hm, he didn't look half bad" but then the pictures of Shrek began appearing and I changed my mind. However, it does look like quite the warrior! Thick head was a requirement back then, I suppose.
