Scientists find 'hint of life' on Titan

An analysis of the chemistry of Titan's surface has revealed hints that there could be life there.
Two papers have been published about the findings. The first describes how hydrogen gas flowing downwards disappears once it reaches the surface suggesting something is breathing it in, the second suggests that the lack of a certain chemical could again imply that something is living there.
Scientists have found evidence that there is life on Saturn's biggest moon, Titan. They have discovered clues that primitive aliens are breathing in Titan's atmosphere and feeding on fuel at the surface. The startling discoveries, made using an orbiting spacecraft, are revealed in two separate reports.

since any life on titan is methane based and life on earth is carbon based. chances are they wont hurt each other. not to mention earth life would probable not survive on titan since it has no o2. You do realise that methane is a carbon based molecule don't you? It has the formula CH4 just dont let any o2 into the atmo and then strike a match. You don't really understand chemistry do you? Firstly, like the Earth, Titan's atmosphere is mostly Nitrogen, only about 1.6% is CH4. Secondly, if you did release O2 and strike a match what would happens is exactly the same as what happens on Earth when ... [More]

what are we doing?! look what happened to the moon when they tried to find evidence there was life/water: they blew a hole in it. we need to stop messing around and worry about what is going on in OUR PLANET. Yep, because ALL the money and resources that could be funnelled into conservation and the environment have instead been hijaked by evil scientists who just want to blow things up on other planets. [/sarcasm] People ARE looking after our planet. We can research a cure for cancer, stop youth crime, save the rainforests AND look for life on Titan at the same time y'know. A bit of perspectiv... just dont let any o2 into the atmo and then strike a match. As a kid I read "Lucky Starr/Space Ranger" by Paul French AKA Isaac Asmov. He used a Rocket Belt to travel that was just oxygen gas in methane atmosphers. It made a good story for kids!

Secondly, if you did release O2 and strike a match what would happens is exactly the same as what happens on Earth when you release methane into the atmosphere and strike a match. I have a cooker that releases methane. I often strike a match. What I get as an exothermic reaction where oxygen and methane combine to give off carbon dioxide and water and heat. CH4 + 2O2→ CO2 ...
