Freak lobster meets second freak lobster

An extremely rare mutant lobster with two cutting claws has been accompanied by a second with the same mutation.
Usually lobsters have two types of claws ( one for cutting and one for crushing ) but in these mutant crustaceans both of them have two cutting claws and no crushing claw at all. The two lobsters were found within weeks of one another making their union a highly unusual and rare occurance.
A million-to-one freak lobster with two cutting claws caught in British waters has found a friend in another mutant crustacean -- with two crushing claws. Lobsters usually have one cutting claw and one crushing claw - which are each used to catch food such as crabs.

Maybe they were conjoined twins separated at birth. Cool.

Maybe they were conjoined twins separated at birth. Cool. It's due to the hunting to near extinction of the hammerhead shark, the apex predator. This allows the shrimp type animals to explode, diversify and mutate unabated.

This is the answer, and it's a tragedy if you examine it closely. Neat though, to make finds like this. I love that they are opposites, quite the pleasurable synchronicity. Nice names, too, Popeye and Edward Scissorhands. Just great stuff. I dislike it when articles like this use language like calling them "friends". I'm sure they don't even really know their counterparts exist, let alone exist in a state of fr... [More]

But we're destroying all apex predators, so the phenomenon is universal. Thanks for that. I saw a tv doc/film about the hammerhead hunting and how it affects the whole marine food chain w.r.t shrimp-like critters. The end result is still up in the air, the experts are worried that we'll end up with a sea of jellfish.

And humans change rarely, only when forced. By the time the ocean forces us, it'll be too late.
