Due to an exorcist shortage Catholic bishops held a conference on how to conduct exorcisms.
Cardinal Daniel DiNardo spoke at the two-day event that explored such topics as identifying whether someone is actually possessed, the scriptural basis of evil and the rituals required in order to perform the exorcism.
Citing a shortage of priests who can perform the rite, the nation's Roman Catholic bishops are holding a conference on how to conduct exorcisms.

Why in the world would they feel people need more exorcists? Are there really that many more people approaching the church claiming to be possessed? i think it's more a matter of declining interest in the religion itself. also, i wonder what they charge for an in-call exorcism? what makes me laugh is that it's supposed to be this deep heavy duty ritual that only select people are qualified for, yet the course is two days?? uh okie dokie. here's the criteria that must be met before the catholic church considers you a candidate for exorcism (quoted from article): "Signs of demonic possession acc... I'm not sure if your charge for an in-call exorcism question is rhetorical or not, but of course it is free. The course itself is much longer then 2 days of training, be advised this is a simple acquaintance of what an Exorcism is not the full course that is taught in Italy. It is taught to every priest however touched on very briefly in the 4 - 9 years of University level schooling that is needed to accomplish by Roman Catholic Priests. Some Priests are asked about it, and in this day and age, it is quite common for a Priest to know next to nothing about the rite, as modern medicine has simpl... [More]

I was simply pointing out the not so obvious smug nature to the non-believers that seem to have no respect to people and their faith. I am aware of that part of the forum, and it's a circus. The same topic goes round and round every single month with no conclusions. I don't need someone to question my faith for me, I was just simply stating for it to be front page news, and not part of that Spirituality vs Skepticism specific section, the moderators should keep the religious vilification out of it. If you know about Exorcism and the rites pertaining to it, then please add to the article howeve... [More]

if i'm not mistaken the article says the course is two days long that they have to take, and also states that it isn t difficult either. as for charging for exorcisms, oh i'm willing to bet there is some sort of obligatory offering to the church. it just wouldn't be like them not to do it. There is no cost actually, it's a duty by the Church. Even when the Roman Catholic Church hands around a collection plate every Sunday, it's of no obligation to pay. The " course " they speak about in this article is more of a seminar. They will simply brief the individuals about Exorcisms, the history and w... [More]

This is probably inapropriate but I just can't help my self any longer!! Maybe they need more exorcists because of all the heathens! Take myself for instance, I was recently told that "the Devil is in YOU!" and some more stuff about speeding trains, and in order to combat the growing poputalion of heathens, such as myself, they need more exorsists to take care of the case load! The world is just covered with us and its getting out of hand! Iam sorry, I know that was terrible but just 10 years ago the chatholic church was saying that they do not perform any exorsisims any more and now they need... [More]

Way back in biblical times, they didn't really have an understanding of psychological dissorders and mental health problems. To me, that's all we're dealing with here. The 'possessed' don't need preists, they need a psychiatrists.

The 'possessed' don't need preists, they need a psychiatrists. I choose a priest over a phsychiatrist any day. My life is already boring the way it is; drive car, work, eat, sleep, and **** every day, nothing new. If I was 'possessed' it would be like going to an interactive theatre, definitely choose a priest over a boring phsychiatrist. Let that demon inside me hiss speaking "demon" language, feeling incredible strength come t... [More]
