Archaeologists have used a robot to explore an ancient tunnel under the Teotihuacan ruins.
Situated below a ruined temple the 2000-year-old tunnel appears sufficiently stable to enter and has a perfectly carved arch roof, it is believed it was deliberately closed off around 200 AD and filled with debris from above.
The first robotic exploration of a pre-Hispanic ruin in Mexico has revealed that a 2,000-year-old tunnel under a temple at the famed Teotihuacan ruins has a perfectly carved arch roof and appears stable enough to enter, archaeologists announced Wednesday.

They need to show live footage of the excavation. So, that we can see first hand. I hate when things like this happen and we find out piece by piece. NO that's the worst thing they could do. We've all seen the films, whenever there's a live archaeological excavation, they uncover something nasty that brutalises the expedition and then takes someone like the Doctor to stop. Won't someone think of the children archaeologists! Say no to live digs, it's the only way to be safe.

Gibberish. They need to show live footage of the excavation. So, that we can see first hand. I hate when things like this happen and we find out piece by piece. Look at it this way Mentalcase. Most of an archaeological dig to include the logistics and paperwork as well as the endless digging, brushing and sifting through layers of sediment in order to come across just one potential artifact is where the majority of time is being spent. For every single find there are likely hundreds (if not thousands) of man-hours of what to the average person would be seen as dreary and endless boredom. Who's... [More]

Gibberish. was that directed at me? If it was, I do apollogise for attempting to inject a dose of humour. I'll know next time that I need to be pooh-faced and serious.

I think that was directed at Stardrive, besides why would you want to smear excrement in your face to look serious? I would think it would rather show the opposite..... pooh-face

I see what you mean cormac. In that sense, yeah it would be very boring. I was basically talking about the first initial finds, etc. Not a long process of identification, etc. Sorry for saying gibberish, lol. I was quite excited to see something of this manner live. One can dream!

One can dream! No problem. The sad thing, IMO, is that there are many, MANY people who don't even think about what's involved. Figuring it's just a case of a little, quick digging here and there to make a find, analyze it and then write it up. If only it were that quick and easy, but it's not. cormac
