One man received £5,000 compensation when he fell out of bed trying to answer the telephone.
In another case a worker received a £6,000 payout for injuring themselves during a first-aid course, while an employee who strained his back while trying to put paper in a printer received over £9,000. City councils spend thousands of pounds in the UK to injured employees due to accidents at work every year.
Council staff have received a total of £75 million in the past five years as compensation following accidents at work. A catalogue of farcical payouts revealed another worker got nearly £6,000 for breaking their wrist in a fall during a demonstration on a first aid course.
