Wireless brake is the future of cycling

Wireless bike brake that fails only three times in a trillion could revolutionize bike control systems.
German scientists are working on a new braking system for bicycles that has the sensory capabilities of a computer mouse yet operates like the brakes we know today i.e. the more pressure exerted on the handlebars the harder the brakes are applied. This braking system seems to work so well that it could one day be applied to larger modes of transportation like aircraft and trains.
Many pilots already fly by wire, but now one German scientist wants to get rid of the cables too. And his wireless braking system on a bike could pave the way after he proved it would only fail three times in a trillion attempts. Computer scientists at Saarland University, Germany, have developed a wireless bicycle brake they say could revolutionise control systems.

seems kinda unnecessary...

Is a cable running from your lever to brake that much of an issue? To be honest I would trust the cable more than an electric device.

Even with those odds, I'd be the one of the three that goes flying into a ditch from wireless brake failure.

They really expect me to believe they tested it a trillion times? How much would that cost? How many man hours would that be???

i wouldn't waste my money on wireless brakes, the ones i have work fine and i can also use my steel-toes as breaks if they dont.

Of course you'd also have to account for the system being powered, which -on a bike- would either mean a battery-powered solution which could possibly lead to a higher failure rate when the owner forgets to swap batteries in time (this is possibly offset by also using solar powered cells), or a dynamo to power the system, which would obviously mean a more strenuous ride. In all, even though I'd prefer cable-brakes myself, it's a nice concept...

It would really suck for one of those three times to occur on the way in front of that SUV that failed to notice the light... Oh, and @Swadwa: that's based on a mathematical model, not real-life tests. Though, one would end up with a hell of a grip after that workout!
