The odds of a recovery for Russia's Phobos-Grunt Mars probe are looking increasingly bleak.
The European Space Agency has called an end to attempts to communicate with the stricken probe which has been stuck in orbit since it was launched a few weeks ago. Russia is expected to continue attempts to rescue the spacecraft however at this point it looks extremely unlikely that the mission can be salvaged.
It is looking increasingly grim for Russia's Mars mission Phobos-Grunt, which has been stuck circling the Earth since its launch in early November.

So is it just a giant piece of metal space junk that will uncontrollably fall to earth in some random place one day? Or do the Russians have an obligation to sort out its decent?

So is it just a giant piece of metal space junk that will uncontrollably fall to earth in some random place one day? Or do the Russians have an obligation to sort out its decent? Unless they regain contact with it, they have no means to control it's decent and it'll essentially come down where it...well...decides to come down... Cheers, Badeskov
