Ned and Fred might seem like two normal kittens, that is until you try counting how many toes they have.
The kittens were handed in to the Gosport Town branch of Cats Protection in Hampshire where vets were startled to find that Ned had 8 extra toes and Fred had 10. Veterinary officer Karen Hiestand described the cats as an 'extreme case' but emphasised that the additional digits wouldn't cause them any health problems.

Awww....the firefighter saving the kitty just melts my heart. When I first started at my last department(small rural department) we received a call of a kitchen grease fire. A lady and her son were home, she was frying some chicken, oil got too hot and it caught fire. Instead of putting a lid on the burning pan she panicked and tried to carry the pan to the sink to pour the flaming oil down the drain. ...that failed miserably. She ended up burning her hands, and throwing the pan at the sink, the flaming oil spraying everywhere and a tiny fire was big in about ten seconds. An arsonist would hav... [More]

Fluffy, all I can say is that your wife is one lucky woman to have a husband who is not only brave and macho, but also kind and sensitive. I don't think too many men would have gone the distance to save a kid's hamsters.

You are my hero, Fluffy...

Great hamster story. I guess they don't train you on hamster CPR, so nice job improvising. Many years ago I saw an adult cat with the double paws on each leg, like the kittens in the article. It didn't seem to suffer from it.

18 extra toes between two cats? Maybe they are life markers, each time they lose a life they lose a toe? 9 lives and all that... Great story Fluffybunny, really did bring a smile to my face

Ok Fluffy - I'll admit it. Your Hamster rescue story brought a little tear to my eye. It was a manly tear though, made up mostly of sweat, beer and hot sauce.

Dispatchers told her to get out of the house wit... [More]

Beautiful story Fluffy, you are definitely a hero - as I am sure are all your firefighting mates out there, but that was special. Now about them extra paws, I think these kitties have an evolutionary advantage there are going to be a lot of callouts from firefighting crews like Fluffies if these guys figure out how handy a grip they'll get out of them climbing tree trunks

Great more toes = more claws .. that's all the owner would need lol But they are lovely...as long as their health I OK that is all that matters ...and thankfully no cat has opposable thumbs ..If my two cats did, I would hate to see what they would do or get into .. Never let a cat get bored...they get into trouble. I KNOW...trust me, I know .... I could take you into my dinning room now and let you see what they have done with some paper work they dragged from the desk on to the floor.. .who needs a shredder?
