The UFO Phenomenon

UFO photographed over Devon

A bridge worker has captured an unusual flashing object in the night sky over Devon, England.
Gary McDermott snapped the photograph at around 9pm on Sunday night. "It must have been a UFO - and I cannot believe I am saying that because I don't believe in them usually. I am always sceptical," he said. "But this was definitely not a normal aircraft. It was red, the shape they say UFO aircraft is, and had two bright lights coming out of it." The sighting follows another sighting of two lights over Kent a few weeks ago.
Gary McDermott snapped the glowing red object, with bright flashing lights, after stopping his car to photograph a low-flying helicopter in Plymouth. The disc-shaped UFO flashed across the sky - just as he was taking the picture - before it disappeared into the night at 9pm on Sunday.

Does every fuzzy photo ever taken of an unidentifiable object have to be posted on this site with an accompanying article to make it look like a legitimate object of study? I had the flu in Dec. and threw up horking up an unidentifiable mass whose components I couldn't readily identify. Maybe I should have taken a picture of it, wrote up a little blurb, and then submitted it to Dorkboys Weekly so it would eventually be picked up by this site and posted as an article which the denizens could read and then discuss until the end of time: "That could be celery, or it could be a UFO"; "I've never s... For 20+ years I have been a Pro photographer. I own a photography company where I hace photographers working for me .........and in all that time and all that experiance I have seen many many instances of lens flare - but none that ever looked like that - I AM NOT SAYING IT IS UFO - I am saying it is NOT LENS FLARE ! hello Che, you quoted my post : quillius, on 25 January 2012 - 10:44 AM, said:The guy said he stopped to take a photo of a helicopter. He then goes on to say whilst snapping the picture he saw 'an object' through the lens. So a more pertinent question is, where is the helicopter i... [More]

I am not so sure why as my question is where is the helicopter he was snapping??? The most likely explanation is that he's not a very good photographer. Unless, of course, he thought that he saw a Helicopter, but it was actually a UFO. Which is probably more likely than it was just the reflection of a Streetlamp, of course.

He clearly says he was taking the photo of the helicopter when the 'object' came into the shot he was about to take...so he must have had the helicopter (if it exists) in his view already...

I suppose he must have heard something; so unless it's one of those crafty UFOs that disguise themselves to sound like Choppers, I expect he probably didn't point the camera in the right direction. The question, though, is, why did he think it worth trying to take a photo of it in the dark anyway?

The article says : after stopping his car to photograph a low-flying helicopter in Plymouth...so if he was in his car the noise would be more unlikely the influencing factor in him stopping the car to take the photo...he also says low flying...is this determined through a visual or sound??? who knows... I was wondering why the hell he'd find a helicopter so interesting that he'd have to photograph it too. The article says "low-flying," but who knows. Honestly, the guy probly looked at this picture the next day, saw the lens-flare/drop of water/ghosting, and then attached a story to it.

Gary McDermott seems to be conspicuous by his absence. And by his lack of provision of the original image, or any information about the camera used, the settings, how come he appears to have used a tripod for a 'snap'.. and so on. I wonder if he actually exists, or just made up that name.

The alleged tog was never a poster here, but IMCO equal blame to Small World News Service and The Telegraph for promoting the UFO story...
