Scientists develop method to 'print' drugs

The technology could lead to personal medicine dispensers that can be operated from one's own home.
Researchers at Glasgow University used a type of 3D printer to create the drug molecules, in the future such technology could make it possible to diagnose and produce a cure for illnesses on demand. "We could use 3D printers to revolutionise access to health care in the developing world, allowing diagnosis and treatment to happen in a much more efficient and economical way than is possible now," said Professor Lee Cronin who headed the research team.
Researchers at Glasgow University have developed a new process which they say can "print" drugs. They are using 3D printing technology which could in theory lead to people having a "personal pharmacy" dispensing medicines at home.

i can think of at least three things wrong with that instantly.. 1/to print the printer would have to be full of base chemicals to produc a range of drugs substancial enough to make it worth it. 2/ these same pure chemicals would be defenetly hacked machines for the drug trade example;psudo ephdrine from cold and flu pills also used for makeing the worlds most addictive drugs ie.speed crank ice meth anphitimene 3/it would also pose an extrem health hazzard' explosions,suicidal persons,health to anyone around the machine has an exposior risk the amount it would cost and the time it would take t... "We could even see 3D printers reach into homes and become fabricators of domestic items, including medications. Perhaps with the introduction of carefully-controlled software 'apps', similar to the ones available from Apple, we could see consumers have access to a personal drug designer they could use at home to create the medication they need." You just know someone will find a way to hack the system to produce illegal narcotics.

Agreed. But link dosen't work for me though. And what about the actual synthesis? How many diffrent compounds do they plan to be able to produce with it? Diffrent models?
