A video recorded on May 30th appears to show an object deliberately entering the smoldering volcano.
Volcanic activity in the region has been the subject of great media interest due to its proximity to Mexico City and this latest footage is not the first to show a strange object descending in to the crater. In November of last year, video evidence was captured showing a bright cigar-shaped craft seemingly hurtling to its doom within Popocatepetl.
"What I think is that this is not a likely fake," wrote video analyst Marc Dantonio on the topic of the latest sighting. "I think, for the moment, this is a genuine image capture." Dontonio however is not convinced that the video shows an otherworldly object. "I am leaning toward the object being a captured commercial jet passing through the field of view," he said. "Because this is a time lapse video, the speed is an illusion, and the flight path of the object and the descending appearance are likely an illusion of perspective, as well."[!gad]Volcanic activity in the region has been the subject of great media interest due to its proximity to Mexico City and this latest footage is not the first to show a strange object descending in to the crater. Mexico's media company, Televisa, monitors any daily activity around the volcano, which is about 40 miles south of Mexico City. Last November, video images showed what appeared to be a brightly lit, cigar-shaped object plunging into the top of Popocatepetl.
