A futuristic type of new train that aims to cut journey times in half has been tested in Japan.
The next generation Lo trains use magnetic levitation technology to lift the carriages up in to the air so that they hover above the tracks, resulting in a much faster and smoother ride without the friction of conventional wheeled systems. Capable of traveling at an astonishing 311mph, the new mag-lev train was tested in Japan this week at a track in Yamanashi Prefecture.

The new high-speed mag-lev trains are due to be deployed in 2027, however the technology isn't entirely new. The first commercial mag-lev train service was launched in China in 2004 and is capable of achieving speeds up to 264mph.
The first successful tests have been carried out for Japan’s new generation of L0 trains, mag-lev bullet trains designed to travel at speeds of 311mph.

Expensive but worth the investment. Very cool technology. There is a push for this in Australia. A maglev network up the East coast would be great but I don't think we'll see it anytime soon.

Very cool! However I hope there are enough redundant power systems ans safe guards if the mags fail.

I feel that they should do more tests. Cos at that kind of speed once there is an accident its bound to be very severe...

If I recall, Phil Schneider had mentioned about this type of transportation which was already in use for years in most of those secretive underground bases. He wasn't lying after all--as some seem to presume.

And it's all down to Professor Eric Laithwaite who invented the Maglev system and as usual, the useless British government did nothing with it And it's all down to Professor Eric Laithwaite who invented the Maglev system and as usual, the useless British government did nothing with it
