A very brief video clip has appeared online showing an object zooming at high speed over California.
The controversial four-second recording, which was allegedly filmed from a drone hovering over Silicon Valley on March 6th, has polarized opinions since being uploaded online.
The object, which moves at great speed towards the left, is very easy to miss as it zooms across the frame. The drone was located at a height of around 80m when the footage was taken and the person who uploaded it, YouTube user 1Darmino, maintains that he has no idea what it could be.
"The only thing I know for sure is that I did nothing that would cause this," he wrote. "You can analyze it better if you download the video in 4K and go frame by frame. Any ideas of what it might be ?"
Since appearing on the Internet the video has prompted a wide variety of suggested explanations including the possibility that it could be a viral hoax designed to promote the drone camera company.
A zoomed in and slowed down version of the footage can be viewed below.
I probably got the terms mixed up, not the brightest bulb in the box over photography terminology. By resolution I did mean clarity or focus. Right, gotcha. Resolution in the general sense.
A bit offtopic.. I think that would be a great thread ChrLzs that I'd like to see. It's now on my todo list, but ahead of it is my review of a Rupert Sheldrake book about doggy psychics.. That one must, obviously, get priority... Sort of related but while attending Fighter Weapons School we were taught to use our peripheral vision to get first sight of a bogie aircraft because the rest of your eye, as you refer to it above, while poor at resolving detail is much better at seeing movement than that center couple of degrees. The idea is to pick up the movement in peripheral and then center your ... [More]
Hi guys. I'm sorry for being so snippy before. I'd spent (wasted) a lot of my free time over the course of a few days back then trying to work this thing out and kept failing. Frustration got the best of me. *Snip* No problem AZ, happens to the best of us. I could hear your frustration but you didn't come across as snippy to me. I appreciate it when people like yourself take the time to investigate and suppor their view. It makes for a much better and more informed discussion/debate. I enjoy it when someone brings something to the table that I can learn from no matter which side of the fence i... [More]

The shadow would be far right outside of the screen view. For the whole video? It appears in the distance mid screen, so it should have put a shadow on the ground between the camera and where it starts. But it doesn't that anyone has seen so far.

He probably hasn't bothered to look at the original and is thinking only of the hacked zoom-in with the phony pan.

Then that could be due to the close up object like an insect, where the shadow is either obscured or below the screen. Almost like flying an aircraft with a back seat flyer, they're out of sight.
