Two Silicon Valley billionaires are funding efforts to prove whether or not we live in a simulation.
What if we told you that the world you live in isn't real ? It might sound like a concept straight out of the Keanu Reeves science fiction favorite
The Matrix, but according to some of the world's top minds, the idea that we are living inside a sophisticated computer simulation is not only possible, it may actually be more likely than the idea that we are living in the real world.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is one such proponent of this idea. He argues that, given the rate at which 3D computer graphics have been advancing, we can expect that at some point in the future, video games will become so convincing that they will be indistinguishable from reality.
Given that likelihood, the possibility arises that such graphics are already possible and that we are in fact living inside such a simulation right now. Musk maintains that the odds of us living inside "base reality", as oppose to a simulation, are "one in billions".
Now according to an article in the New Yorker, two anonymous technology billionaires have been quietly funding efforts to prove once and for all that we are living inside a simulation.
Their goal - to find a way to escape back to actual 'reality', whatever that might be.
Who these people are remains unclear, but it seems that they are taking the idea very seriously.
Knock, knock, Neo...
