Live octopus turns up in Miami car park

Property developer Richard Conlin managed to capture the unexpected cephalopod on camera this week.
The octopus, which was found fidgeting around in a shallow pool of water on the floor of his garage, appeared to have emerged from a drainage pipe along with a school of small fish.

The bizarre discovery soon made headline news after photos of it were uploaded on to Facebook.

According to associate biology professor Kathleen Sullivan Sealey of the University of Miami, the octopus likely found its way in to the garage after entering the drainage system during high tide.

"When that much sea water comes in the octopus is like 'what's this ?' and goes to explore and ends up in a bad place," she said.

This does not bode well for this guy if sea levels rise.

If they rise? They have already risen and parts of Miami Beach get flooded regularly. From the article.

Huh? I thought I'd read that sea levels were only up several centimeters so far. But, then again, I've lived in coastal Georgia, and realize that much of Florida is only inches above sea level at the best of times.

Bright Flash of Light - What you saw wasn't a cephalopod, it was dirty fire fighter's foam from Santa Clara that came up through the sewers.
