A pig dubbed 'Pigcasso' has launched an exhibition showcasing her unique approach to the world of art.
The fact that pigs are smart has been known for years, but did you know that they can paint too ?
Owned by Joanne Lefson of Farm Sanctuary SA, the pig known as Pigcasso has been making waves in the art world recently thanks to her remarkable ability to create expressionist paintings.
Trained for most of her life using positive-reinforcement techniques, the artistic swine is able to grab a brush in her mouth and use it to slap paint of various colors on to the canvas.
The resulting paintings have proven so popular that she has even opened her own art exhibition.
Known as 'OINK', the showcase opened earlier this month at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town and will be travelling to London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam.
"At half a ton of talent, it was clearly time that the heavyweight abstract expressionist of the world have her own exhibition," said Lefson. "By rights she was destined to be the filling on a sandwich. But Pigcasso showed talent from the outset when she picked up a paintbrush instead of a ball."
Oh dear. Has the concept of art become such a lost cause that we have now denigrated to sensationalizing the haphazard scribbles of a pig now? The porkers paint slops are no different than of any other beast (or toddler for that matter)
