A recent effort to trawl Loch Ness for potential 'monster' DNA has reportedly yielded some interesting results.
The study, which was led by New Zealand scientist Professor Neil Gemmell, aimed to use DNA sampling techniques to find out whether there was any scientific basis for the monster legend.

Now at last, almost a year after the DNA samples were collected, Prof Gemmell and his team have almost finished the analysis and will be announcing the full results at a conference next month.

From the findings released so far, the team has managed to identify the DNA of 15 different species of fish and a whopping 3,000 species of bacteria, among other things.
Part of the study also involved investigating the validity of various monster hypotheses such as whether or not the creature could be a prehistoric reptile, a sturgeon or a giant catfish.

"Is there anything deeply mysterious ?" said Gemmell. "Hmm. It depends what you believe. Is there anything startling? There are a few things that are a bit surprising."

"We've tested each one of the main monster hypotheses and three of them we can probably say aren't right and one of them might be."

Really, that guy is one of the most respectable personalities within the field of cryptozoology. I agree with you, theres plenty of pranksters and hoaxers, such as todd standing, but jeff meldrum is not one of them.

im not picking on you but i just dont see this as being all epic like it is to you, lets go to fully speculate with a theory and say they find Plesiosauria DNA i use that creature since it seems to be what true believers want nessie to be, it would be pretty darn wild considering everything known about that extinct species says they couldnt thrive in the loch and even if they were there they could hardly hide. so they find some wild DNA it doesnt at all prove that creature lives there in a population.   Aldves i will make this one reply since this is a loch ness thread and i didnt post that t... I'd disagree. He made an appearance here once. I lost respect for him after that.

What reading have you done on the subject?

calling me out? fair enough, if i had in my reply you quoted i thumped my chest at all that what i posted was anything more than my opinions on the subject, gained from my personal research blanket termed as "reading" but not limited to that, ive read countless books, seen countless documentaries, shows, reads leactures etc, over 50 years, impossible to list it. rather than question how i came to my opinions why not question the opinion itself, for example if you believe this project will yeild smoking gun proof of a unknown monster in the loch, give us your reasons for thinking that, im all e... Would be great if they find seal DNA ! We have a lake here in eastern Canada with seal in it ! (we didn't club them, don't ask please...) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacs_des_Loups_Marins

It still doesn't appear as though the results for this project have been released. However, here are some snippets on why the project and eDNA is important whether, or not, Nessie exists. https://www.otago.ac.nz/news/news/releases/otago690003.html https://gemmell-lab.otago.ac.nz/research-projects/current-research-projects/124-quantifying-marine-biodiversity-using-environmental-dna In simple terms -  you can get data about marine life in a zone, without worrying about having the right bait.
