Doctors were shocked to discover an extremely rare type of ectopic pregnancy in a patient's liver.
The case was highlighted recently in a viral TikTok video by Dr Michael Narvey - a paediatrician at the Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba in Canada.
"I thought I had seen it all - a 33-year-old woman comes in with a 14-day history of menstrual bleeding and 49 days since her last menstrual period," he said.
"What they find in the liver is this: a baby. She had an ectopic pregnancy in her liver."
"We see these sometimes in the abdomen but never in the liver. This is a first for me."
The video has since been viewed over 3.5 million times.
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg inadvertently becomes implanted in the fallopian tube, however on extremely rare occasions it can even fall out of the tube entirely and end up somewhere else - which in this particular case happened to be the liver.
Such a pregnancy is so rare in fact that only 14 cases were recorded between 1965 and 1999.
Sadly, in this particularly case, the foetus had to be removed to save the woman's life.
She is now recovering and is believed to be doing ok.
This is a bit confusing now. Ths is third thread on the same topic in the last 2-3 days. Should we comment on the same thing again here? Or, just a transfer our comments from the same threads we already commented on?
There was one other thread on this topic that was started after this one. Since the topic had already been posted, the second was closed. It happens sometimes that a story will get noticed by a couple different members and it gets double posted. Sorry about the confusion. This is the open thread on the topic, so you can comment about it here
