Recently released footage allegedly shows a large, exotic cat that reportedly roams the wilds of Northumberland.
It's a phenomenon that has endured in the British Isles for decades - sightings of large cats such as panthers and lynxes (sometimes referred to as "alien big cats") that have somehow ended up surviving in the wilds of a country in which they do not belong.
Sightings of such creatures have produced a number of local legends in parts of England, such as the famous 'Beast of Bodmin Moor' which gained notoriety after a spate of incidents in 1978.
Now another similar legend - 'The Black Cat of Tynedale' - has reportedly been captured on camera in the Allen Valleys - a remote region of Northumberland - by a worker who has chosen to remain anonymous.
The footage, which can be viewed below, shows what appears to be a large black cat wandering through a field, however determining it's exact size is somewhat difficult.
According to the witness, the cat was around 40 meters away at the time of recording.
The sighting follows on from a report in 2008 from a resident who spotted a large black cat "stalking deer" in the Guessburn Estate area.
A similar creature was also spotted by two other witnesses in that same year.
So could this video be evidence of a panther or other exotic beast roaming Northumberland or is it nothing more than a domestic cat out for a stroll in a field ?
