Bigfoot tales abound in New York state's Chautauqua County

Does Bigfoot roam the wilds of New York state ? Image Credit: CC BY-SA 4.0 Carlstak There are few cryptozoological mysteries as enduring and widespread as Bigfoot - a mysterious hairy hominid that is believed to roam the wilds and woodlands of rural North America.

While conclusive evidence of the creature's existence continues to remain elusive, there are many who are so convinced by their own personal experiences that, to them at least, the question of whether or not Bigfoot is really out there has already been settled.

One part of the country that has been in the news recently due to its association with the mystery is New York state's Chautauqua County - a region said to be home to a whole population of these elusive hairy hominids who reside in the area's dense forests.Multiple residents claim to have either seen one first-hand or know someone who has.

"They are from all kinds of walks of life," Peter Wiemer, who sponsors the Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo, told WGRZ. "There's 45 eyewitnesses that have reached out to me, there's a hundred or more in Chautauqua County that aren't talking to me."

While only a body is ever likely to satisfy science, the experiences of witnesses is arguably a phenomenon unto itself - these people must be seeing something out there.

As for what that could be, we may never know for sure.
