Charles Amicangel had been delivering parcels when the ground suddenly gave way beneath his feet.
If you think you're having a bad day, spare a thought for this guy...

Amicangel had been delivering a parcel to a home in Apple Valley, California recently when the ground suddenly collapsed underneath him and he found himself falling into an underground pit.

Things went from bad to worse when he realized that what he had landed in was a septic tank.

Pulling out his phone, he even captured footage of his predicament.

"So I'm delivering to this customer's house and I just fell into a septic tank, I think," he said. "I don't know if they were digging it or what, but I walked by it and the ground came out underneath me."
"I'm like 6ft down and I tried using these roots around me to get out and they just pulled more dirt on top of me. I'm standing in knee-deep sludge."

"I really do not want to die in somebody's whatever you call this thing."

Fortunately, firefighters were soon on the scene and with the help of a ladder, he was able to climb out of the hole.

Incredibly, though, he still had to get back in his van and finish his deliveries.

You can check out the footage via a CNN report on the incident below.

That happens in a lot of pre-sewer service neighborhoods and use to be a common EMS call.

The old ones are just pits but the poo is gone and it's just a dirt hole. The newer ones had caps since the 1940s.

Wow. Lucky for him he wasn't doing this in FL, then he falls in a sinkhole and noone ever sees him again. Something similar to this happened to me once. In the 70s, so bear with me... I had been going over to the home of the other guitarist in the band I was in. Actually his mom's home, we were both 17.  One night I went over there to stay with him, we had practice the next day so we were just going to hang out that evening. We practiced in his mom's basement. I pulled into the driveway and got out of the car. It was pitch black outside and they had their porchlight on, but no street lights o... [More]

The fact he didn't lose their stuff is an amazing story in and of itself.  I swear they are getting worse again. They lost a shipment of mine again a couple days ago and then they do want to admit it. So I got them on chat and said 'Before you refund this, just admit you lost it'. And the guy is like well, it could still arrive... and at that point I am done and said just refund it.
