The woman had seemingly lived for eight decades with the needle embedded in the left side of her brain.
This incredible (and disturbing) discovery was recently brought to light when the woman underwent a CT scan at a hospital in Russia's Sakhalin region.
The needle, which measured 3 cm in length, had seemingly been there for her whole life, yet she had never experienced any ill-effects from it - not even so much as a headache.
It is now believed that the needle had been deliberately inserted into her head by her parents in a gruesome attempt to kill her as a baby - a practice that was surprisingly not that uncommon in Russia 80 years ago when widespread famine forced parents to commit such unfathomable acts.
The needle was inserted through a part of the skull that quickly healed, leaving no trace of injury.
In this case, however, it seems that the brain tissue developed around the object, leaving the woman able to live a full life without suffering any complications.
Doctors have since determined that it would be too dangerous to remove the needle, especially given that it didn't seem to be causing any problems.
In all likelihood, she will go on to live a healthy life for many more years to come.
