'Everyone has psychic abilities', controversial new study suggests

A new study has suggested that our innate psychic abilities may be getting suppressed by the brain.
The question of whether or not psychic abilities exist has remained a point of contention for years.

While concrete evidence of abilities such as telepathy, telekinesis and clairvoyance continues to remain elusive, some people are absolutely convinced that such abilities really do exist.

There have even been scientific studies into the phenomenon.

Enter Dr. Morris Freedman - a Canadian researcher who has headed up a recent study which alleges to have discovered the part of the brain responsible for inhibiting psychic abilities.

This is, of course, quite a claim given that the existence of such abilities remains unproven.

According to the study, all humans may possess innate psychic abilities.
To investigate further, Dr. Freedman and colleagues used a technique known as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to temporarily alter the brain activity of volunteers using magnetic pulses.

This, according to the study, helped the team identify an area of the brain responsible for inhibiting psychic abilities and even enabled volunteers to influence a random number generator.

"These findings are potentially transformative for the way we view interactions between the brain and seemingly random events," said Dr. Freedman.

But could this really be proof that psychic abilities are the real deal ?

Suffice to say, research of this nature is typically met with a great deal of skepticism from the scientific community at large.

Even so, it does make for an interesting read.

You can check out the study itself - here.

Well I sort of am Xeno, I know you can feel it and I want you to glory in it. I don't waste my time with lost causes. I'm just assuming the right amount. If that's not preaching bud...I don't know what the hell it is!  And I know what preaching is.  I grew up in a family of preaching.  You have a belief system and you want to share it with others.  You want others to 'glory in' your beliefs!  Make your beliefs their beliefs, and by doing so, you find validation for your beliefs.  Beliefs demand confirmation bias. I know you don't see that.

@openozy I really want to know what you're getting at. You know about some of my experiences. I can not help but question the validity of it all. I have trouble accepting it whole hog. As for fear, yes, the fear of being a lunatic. That something is wrong with my brain and that's why I had those experiences. Would I like for all of that stuff to be real? Yes. As it would mean all that time, effort, and energy went into something real. But one thing I learned on here is that it is stupid to believe in imaginary things. I learned on various occult forums I wasn't doing anything right. Because I ... [More]

It's not a belief or religion I'm talking about. Sorry you had some religion rammed down your neck as a kid or whatever but not my problem.

Nicely written Xeno. I think with me I'm such an introvert that other people's ways in society mean very little to me which allows me not to care for their opinions or judgement. This allows me to live my chosen reality or world with no boundaries.

If it isn't a belief then please provide the proof for it.  Your only 'proof' is your own personal experience. That isn't proof. That is belief.   Deciding that something is the truth without proof, scientifically proven, published and peer reviewed proof, is just belief. And the spreading of your belief to others is preaching.

It's not just belief if you have witnesses, well not to me so I'd call it educating, like you try to do on here.

Yes, it is still belief.  Witnesses are anecdotal evidence and not very good anecdotal evidence.  If it can be duplicated over and over in a scientific study, then you can say it is knowledge, not belief, and then you are advancing education.  But if it cannot be duplicated over and over in a scientific study, then, it is belief.  Education involves the truth.  There is no truth in fantasy.

I don't want to keep going back and forth with it, I have a different view due to a myriad of experiences and I'm in no way interested in any failed scientific tests that proved nothing either way. I wonder why scientists keep studying different aspects of something you think is fantasy, seems like a waste of time, energy and money.

Just to be clear, not trying to be redundant,  if it can't be proven scientifically, then it is not part of our knowledge base.  Real scientists like to know things.  Who knows, maybe one day a scientist will find that everything you think to be true is actually true.  Until then, I'll just go with fantasy.  You go with what you believe.  It's all good.  Enjoy the beautiful weather I hope you are having.
