A huge search and rescue effort is currently underway to locate Michael Mosley who disappeared four days ago.
A major mystery has been unfolding this week concerning the inexplicable disappearance of Michael Mosley - a British journalist, TV presenter and medical expert who had gone for a walk on the Greek island of Symi on Wednesday afternoon only to vanish without a trace.

His wife, Dr Clare Bailey, raised the alarm when she realized that he hadn't returned.

He was seen leaving Saint Nikolas beach at 1.30pm and initially the search had focused around this area, but then CCTV footage emerged suggesting that he may have actually taken a different, more difficult coastal path and authorities have since switched to scouring this route instead.

Large groups of volunteers, as well as rescue teams, drone pilots and firefighters have spent days searching for any sign of him, but have so far come up completely empty.

"The path is not easy to follow, if he took a wrong turn he would be lost," said one volunteer.
"He could be anywhere, it is a race against time."

The search is made all the more urgent by the fact that sweltering temperatures will have made it difficult for anyone to have survived out in the open, especially for several days.

The local mayor has insisted that search efforts will continue until he is found.

As things stand, however, it is looking increasingly unlikely that he will be found alive.

Update: A body has reportedly been found in the area by search and rescue teams.

Temperatures are reaching highs of 52 C (the search dog was able to work just one hour today due to the heat). Video evidence shows that Mosley made it to the village where he could have asked for assistance if he needed it, so it's really odd that no one has seen any sign of him after that. https://www.theguardian.com/media/article/2024/jun/08/michael-mosley-search-will-not-stop-until-he-is-found-says-symi-mayor-greece

Definitely an odd one this …..hope they find him but it’s not looking good ….maybe a medical incident causing him to go into the water….still you would think his body would be found ….

Apparently CCTV shows him heading up a steep rocky path leading out of the town. A body has been found in the search so unfortunately it seems he didn't make it very far.

The outcome, unfortunately, was not the one we had hoped it would be. Michael Mosley Found Dead on Greek Island of Symi The body of British presenter Michael Mosley was found on the Greek island of Symi, rescue workers confirmed on Saturday. His body was discovered in a rocky area of Agia Marina, north of the town of Pedi where he was last seen in a CCTV video. His body was spotted by Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, the mayor of Symi, and a group of journalists who were combing the area of Agia Marina on a boat. The British presenter appears to have taken a dangerous path through the mountain wit... [More]

Very foolhardy to attempt that walk in high temperatures without any equipment. A sad ending but preventable.

You might think a doctor would know better. Very sad outcome for him and the family.

The body of an American tourist has reportedly been found on the Greek island of Mathraki, adding to the list of foreigners missing or dead during a record-setting heatwave. A Dutchman was also found dead on Samos over the weekend, following the recent death of British TV presenter Dr Michael Mosley on the island of Symi. Another American, Albert Calibet, is among at least three others reported missing. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cl550xgnpl3o
