Authorities had been attempting to ascertain how the woman had ended up starving and emaciated in the forest.
A few days ago we covered the story of Lalita Kayi - an American woman who was discovered chained up to a tree in the middle of a forest in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Exhausted, emaciated and starving hungry, the woman alleged that her husband had "chained her and left her in the forest to die without food or water".

Upon being rescued, she was quickly taken to a local hospital where doctors were able to determine that she was also suffering from mental health issues.

Something about her story, however, didn't add up - especially the part about how exactly she had ended up in the forest and why her husband would have left her there to die.
Incredibly, it has since been revealed that she had actually tied herself to the tree - leaving her stranded and starving with nobody knowing she was there.

Her 'husband' reportedly didn't even exist as she wasn't actually married.

According to reports, after her visa had expired and she had run out of money, she had taken the decision to buy chains and a lock and go out into the remote woods to tie herself up.

Her initial claims about the incident were likely the result of hallucinations.

Exactly why she felt tying herself to a tree was the best option, however, still remains unclear.

It appears to be a domestic squabble that ended in a tragic outcome. Hopefully, the culprit involved will be nabbed and brought to justice. I would like to list some observations of mine. There is a large western and foreign population in India, and the said lady could have contacted this community , especially with women, for guidance, networking and security reasons. ( They could also do the same with people in their home country or the local police) Upon not getting timely status updates from her through communication channels in the cellphone or email or internet, they could have alert... If anyone remembers the brutal gang rape and murder of a young female student in 2012 then this latest incident isn't much of a mystery.
