A bizarre and tragic accident in India has highlighted the importance of not relying too heavily on your car's sat nav.
While satellite navigation systems can be extremely useful in helping you find your way around, they can also be quite problematic when the maps they are using haven't been properly updated to reflect current road layouts.

We've heard quite a few stories over the years of people ending up in hot water after blindly following their sat nav's instructions, but this latest incident - which occurred recently in India - is certainly one of the most tragic.

It involved three men who had been driving home from a wedding on Saturday, November 23 when their vehicle drove straight off the end of an incomplete bridge.

All three were killed after the car plummeted 50ft onto the ground below.

When investigators arrived on the scene, they discovered that the men had been following satellite navigation instructions that were outdated and hadn't accounted for the state of the bridge which had been closed due to a partial collapse.
According to reports, four engineers have since been arrested in connection with their deaths.

Poor visibility due to thick fog at the time of the accident was also thought to be partly to blame.

"The officials must be held accountable for this negligence," one of the men's relatives told a local news outlet.

"Why was the bridge left incomplete and why were there no safety measures in place?"

''In December 2023, Google announced that location history collected through Timeline would be moved from the cloud to phone storage by the end of 2024. By default, this change will keep the last three months of a user's Timeline history and permanently delete the rest.''

From the sounds of it, there was thick fog at the time.

According to the article, no barricades were installed to restrict access. The construction company would likely be at fault, not Google Maps.

If they were traveled with the Tesla's self-driving car, maybe this wouldn't happen to them. ?

Or maybe they were texting while driving. It is state law here that if you are caught texting when driving it is a big fine. You gotta watch the road for sure.

A. Adblock seems to be messing with that particular link B  UP means something else here in the US C. There seems to be a recurring incidence of this in india, which would suggest that google may not be the problem.

Not to mention some bridges are hard to see what's in front of you on a clear day.   I've been on several long ones in Florida where it's not always apparent there's going to keep being a road in front of you.
