Pentagon officials have been left stumped by unexplained drone incursions over restricted airspace.
According to reports, the mystery drones were spotted in precise formations over Langley Air Force base in east Virginia and the surrounding area for 17 nights in a row back in December 2023.

The formations included one or two fixed-wing drones flying around 100ft up while a larger number of smaller, commercially available drones flew together underneath.

Another, even larger drone would also be seen scouting out the area beforehand at high speed.

Despite their best efforts, US Air Force personnel were unable to catch the drones and they were also reportedly unable to shoot them down either due to federal laws prohibiting such action over US soil.

The incursions were particularly worrisome because the area is home to numerous sensitive facilities including Langley Air Force base, Fort Eustis and Naval Station Norfolk.
Radar detection also proved challenging due to the small size of the drones.

As it stands, Pentagon officials remain unclear on exactly who was behind the incursions - it could have been a curious hobbyist or a hostile foreign actor - but an analysis of the frequencies used to control the drones suggested that they were different to those used by off-the-shelf drone units.

The incident echoes a similar incursion by mystery drones over US nuclear facilities 2 months earlier.

So who exactly is responsible for sending these drones and what are they trying to achieve ?

Could China, Russia or some other foreign country be using them to spy on US Air Force bases ?

The search for answers continues.

I’d wish you’d read what I write instead of reacting. Using EW (electronic warfare) is not shooting down anything, mearly bombarding the “drones” with another electronic signal to disable it. Basically pumping out massive amounts of electronic signals to confuse and disable the drones link to the operators

Ironically, you need to read what @Timothy wrote in full.

You again? Okay I know I’m gonna regret this but what specifically are you referring to?

The bit where it is said that jamming signals were ruled out. You only had to read to the end.

I read shooting them down was ruled out. Nothing mentioned bringing them down with radio signals

It was mentioned.  Now for the third time... You're welcome Risky.

I missed that but that changes nothing as it’s just a convenient excuse to deflect from the obvious truth. Now if there’s nothing else I’m gonna have myself some KFC

@Golden Duck military bases are restricted no fly zones and don’t subscribe to the whole 9/11 bullchit. Basically there are no 9/11 reasons to jam a signal for national security reasons to fry a enemy drone for all of 30 seconds and since there are no commercial flights even allowed because airlines fly commercial corridors which leaves all airspace military airspace the point is mute

Convenient excuse in your opinion. Reasonable precaution in reality. 911, not 9/11. Edit: Also just with the bit I made bold above, can you please expand on that?  You either don’t understand how airspace works, or are bad at articulating your understanding.  So, it’s not a moot point until you elaborate.

I’ve explained how airspace works by all means why don’t you ?
