The bizarre case is now understood to be one of 21 being more closely investigated by government officials.
Earlier this year, whistleblower Jake Barber - a US Air Force veteran who was contracted as a helicopter pilot - claimed to have been part of UFO retrieval operations for the US government.
Speaking to NewsNation's Ross Coulthart, he described one particular incident in which he was tasked with retrieving a white, egg-shaped craft that he believed was definitely not of human origin.
"Just visually looking at the object on the ground, you could tell that it was extraordinary and anomalous," he said. "It was not human."
"It's inconsistent with anything I'd ever seen before. I can also tell you that the reaction by my team, we all knew we were dealing with something extraordinary."
"Over the last couple years, it's been confirmed to me by ranking members of the UAP task force that what we were working with that night was, in fact, NHI (nonhuman intelligence) and it was not a unique experience."
The story made headline news in the press at the time thanks to an accompanying video (viewable below) that allegedly shows the UFO in question being picked up and moved via helicopter.
Now, according to reports, the US Department of Defense (DoD) has confirmed that it is actually looking into the case alongside 20 others as part of ongoing investigations into the phenomenon.
Whether anything will come of this, however, remains to be seen - as does whether or not the findings of the investigation will actually be published even if something of significance is discovered.
As for the original video of the egg-shaped UFO - the jury is still out on its authenticity.
