Viral CCTV footage shows the moment a factory robot suddenly freaks out and starts flailing around madly.
Humanoid robots will undoubtedly become commonplace in the not-too-distant future, especially given the recent advances we've seen in artificial intelligence and robotics.
Not everyone, however, is too thrilled with the idea of sharing the world with these walking automatons and this recent viral clip, which shows CCTV footage recorded at a factory in China, demonstrates why.
It shows two men working to activate a humanoid robot hanging next to them when, all of a sudden, the contraption completely freaks out and starts flailing its arms wildly all over the place.
The men can be seen struggling to get the machine back under control as it continues its epic tantrum.
News outlets have since reported that this is a Unitree H1 robot - a type of full-size, bipedal humanoid robot capable of walking around untethered and completing various tasks.
It's not clear what exactly went wrong with this particular unit, but the robot's antics haven't helped to ease concerns about what it might be like to live and work alongside such machines.
IIRC, there has been some pondering about the possibility of AI having the equivalent of a mental breakdown. A psycho that is controlling our infrastructure or military would be a "poor outcome."Â
If the human mind and all of our memories could be downloaded and booted into a robot would everyone be on board with that? It would make a good movie if humans had to end their life at a certain age after transferring their memory and one guy refuses to die and ultimately is hunted by his own robotic self who chases him and knows his every move with a twist ending that the human being hunted was actually a robot who was faulty and he thought he was human. I feel like I've already seen this movie. Â
I don't know about the movie, but you described the premise of Ray Kurzweil's THE SINGULARITY. It was a fascinating read, but if a person believes humans have a soul/spark of consciousness, downloading even a full memory of everything that person ever experienced, it still would not have a soul. It would just be the transfer of data to an organic system.
One day I believe we will be able to upload a replica of ourselves into a computer. But  there’s a big difference between consciousness and a replica. I don’t believe uploading our complete memories into a computer would be any extension of our life it would become a very surprised replica of us nothing more. Probably a p***ed off replica because you would be nothing more than a machine. However synthetic replicas of the human body with a replica of the brain loaded with a copy of someone’s memory would be different then we are looking at clones instead of AI this would be freaking weir...
